Gone Campin'
This past memorial weekend I went camping for the first time in years. I am the kind of girl that loves the city and all the perks that come with it; shopping, hair salons, French manicures, events going on every week, and all the other hustle and bustle that comes with city living. But I love, love, love camping!
So when I told my boyfriend that I wanted to go camping he couldn't believe it; he started buying everything under the sun that we needed to go camping! Him and all his outdoorsy buddies had their doubts (and maybe some bets going on too) that I couldn't hack it! But I knew I could do it...I mean I went camping when I was kid and I loved going up north to our family camp. So in typical Courtney fashion I made a checklist and then another checklist, for all the items we needed...itemized and color coordinated of course. I was so excited and looking forward to the weekend all week long. Everything was packed and organized ready to go. I even had the forecast jotted down for each day...you never can be over-prepared when your going camping.
Saturday:
We
weren't able to leave for the weekend until Saturday after I was done with
work. It was a four-hour drive and we finally arrived at Kosir's, our
campsite, around 10:30pm. We setup our tent and the essentials for the night
and hit the hay shortly after...it was a long day of work and travel.
Sunday:
The
next day Joe and I finished setting up camp. Started a fire and then relaxed
for a bit. Joe took a nap while I gathered some flowers and took some photos.
When he woke up we tried to tie up the hammock. That didn't work out too
great! Little by little the surrounding campers packed up and left for the
weekend. I was a little bummed because I wanted some camping buddies but not
too upset when we had the entire back half to ourselves. It was absolutely
perfect! Later that afternoon my parents came to visit us; they have a cabin
about 20 minutes away from the campground. At this point it was down pouring
but we moved the picnic table under our canopy and we ended up talking and
playing Trouble all night. Of course I was the winner!!! We stayed up talking
and hanging out until wee hours in the night. We ended the night with shots,
hugs, and goodbyes. All in all it was a fantastic evening under the canopy and
rain.
Monday:
It
rained all morning until about 1pm so there was not much we could do but hang
out in the tent. Thank goodness it wasn't too hot out or we would have really
been miserable. At this point most of our day was shot so we just made Bloody Marys
and packed up to head home.
Our
first camping trip together was a success and a great start to summer!
